More than 12 percent of U.S. high school students are obese (≥ 95th percentile for body mass index) and 78 percent eat fruits and vegetables less than five times per day, according to a 2009 survey conducted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  The same study indicates that, of the schools surveyed, only 18 percent provide outlets for students to purchase fruits or vegetables at school while 77 percent provide soda for purchase. Egg Recall After Salmonella Outbreak

Company based in Iowa recalled its eggs on Wednesday to 380 million after some of its facilities were linked to an outbreak of salmonella that has affected hundreds of people across the country. The outbreak of salmonella began back in May, just weeks before new government safety rules went into effect that were intended to greatly reduce the risk of salmonella in eggs. The company behind the recall, Wright County Egg, of Galt, Iowa, is owned by Jack DeCoster, who has had run-ins with regulators over poor or unsafe working conditions, and many other issues about his workers. One study found that when 44,489 people ate one serving of chocolate per week they were 22% less likely to have a stroke than people who didn’t indulge. Chocolate contains more than 300 chemicals, and has been subjected to studies by many. Some effects of chocolate are good, some not so much, but we all have to admit that it tastes wonderful.
