Spare Glasses – A True Story

darynSpare Glasses – a True Story

I have a funny story for you that nearly every mom or dad who wear glasses can appreciate. A few months ago my sister called me screaming “your nephew broke my eyeglasses!” It’s only funny because he broke my super-expensive eyeglasses with transitions lenses about a year ago. The little handed monster struck again! It wasn’t so funny when my sister started to cry and say “I spent $400 on those stupid things! What am I going to do?” My sister somehow managed to forget that her little sister (me) works in the optical business. In an honest tone I asked my sister “you don’t have a spare pair, do you?” Her answer: “who thinks of buying spare eyeglasses when the original pair is so expensive?”

That line rolled through my head for the rest of the day. I always bought spare pairs of glasses – long before I entered into the optical business. When I was a kid, my parents bought me two pairs of prescription glasses because, much like my nephew, I was a little handed monster. The only exception being I destroyed my own glasses – not other people’s frames. It never really dawned on me that people actually spend so much on eyeglasses.

My advice to my big sister was this: shop online! Everyone knows that shopping online can be cheaper than physically going into a store. Granted, my sister’s answer back to me was “can’t you just make me a new pair of glasses?” For the rest of the world wearing eyeglass frames, shopping online is a great idea! It saves you money, time, and there’s no annoying sales people to deal with. Why spend $400 on a pair of eyeglasses when you can spend $30? Make the smart choice!

I firmly believe in having two pairs of glasses!

  2. Yup learned that the hard way a while back. Had to wear contacts I hated for 2 weeks before the TWO new pairs came in!

I buy them online at ZenniOptical.com. They start at like $8 and I have about 10 pairs that come in different shapes and colors. Some aren’t the best quality frames, but for the price I love them!
